
🇭🇺 Green Beans Stew – Zöldbab Főzelék
🧾 Ingredients:
- 500 g green beans (fresh or frozen, cut into pieces)
- 1 small onion (finely chopped)
- 2 tbsp oil or butter
- 1 tbsp flour
- 1 tbsp Hungarian sweet paprika
- 1–2 tbsp fresh dill (or 1 tsp dried dill)
- 200 ml milk or light cream
- 1 tbsp vinegar or lemon juice
- 1 tsp sugar (optional)
- Salt and black pepper (to taste)
- 500–700 ml water or broth

👩🍳 Instructions:
- Cook the beans:
Place green beans in a pot with water or broth. Add a pinch of salt and cook for about 15–20 minutes until tender.
- Prepare the base:
In a separate pan, heat oil or butter and sauté onion until soft. - Remove from heat and stir in paprika, then add flour and mix well.
- Make the stew:
Slowly add some of the cooking liquid from the beans to the onion mixture, stirring to create a smooth sauce. - Pour this mixture back into the pot with the beans.
Finish with vinegar or lemon juice for a slightly tangy taste.
Season and finish:
Add dill, salt, pepper, and a little sugar if desired.
Stir in milk or cream and simmer gently for a few minutes (do not boil).
