
🇭🇺 Hungarian Chicken Paprikash (Chicken & Dumplings – Paprikás Csirke Galuskával)
🧾 Ingredients:
For the chicken paprikash:
- 800 g chicken (bone-in thighs or mixed pieces)
- 2 tbsp oil or lard
- 2 large onions (finely chopped)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 2 tbsp Hungarian sweet paprika
- 1 tomato (chopped) or 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 green pepper (chopped)
- 250 ml chicken broth
- 200 ml sour cream
- 1 tbsp flour (optional)
- Salt and black pepper (to taste)
For the dumplings (galuska):
- 2 eggs
- 150–200 g all-purpose flour
- 50–100 ml water
- 1 pinch salt

👩🍳 Instructions:
1. Make the chicken paprikash:
- Heat oil in a pot and cook onions slowly until soft and lightly golden.
- Add garlic and cook briefly.
- Remove from heat and stir in paprika.
- Add chicken and coat well in the onion mixture.
- Return to heat and cook a few minutes.
- Add tomato and green pepper. Season with salt and pepper.
- Pour in broth, cover, and simmer 35–45 minutes until chicken is tender.
2. Prepare the dumplings:
- Mix eggs, flour, salt, and enough water to make a soft, sticky dough.
- Bring a pot of salted water to a boil.
- Drop small pieces of dough into the water (using a spoon or grater).
- Cook until they float (2–3 minutes), then drain.
3. Finish the sauce:
- Mix sour cream with flour.
- Stir into the paprikash and simmer gently (do not boil).
4. Serve:
Serve chicken over dumplings with plenty of creamy paprika sauce.
