Krémes is one of the most famous desserts from Hungary. It’s a light, creamy vanilla custard slice sandwiched between crisp layers of puff pastry and finished with a generous dusting of powdered sugar. Smooth, airy, and rich at the same time—this is a true bakery classic.


Ingredients

Puff Pastry

  • 2 sheets puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)

Custard Cream

  • 1 liter milk
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 200 g sugar
  • 80 g cornstarch (or flour)
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract or 1 vanilla pod
  • 50 g butter
  • 6 egg whites
  • 2 tbsp sugar (for egg whites)

Topping

  • Powdered sugar
