🇭🇺 Hungarian Plum Dumplings – Szilvásgombóc

🧾 Ingredients:

For the dough:

  • 500 g potatoes (peeled)
  • 150–200 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 pinch salt

For the filling:

  • 10–12 plums (pitted)
  • 2–3 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

For coating:

  • 80 g breadcrumbs
  • 2–3 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp sugar

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Cook potatoes:
    Boil potatoes until tender, drain well, and mash until smooth. Let cool.

  1. Make dough:
    Mix mashed potatoes with egg, butter, salt, and enough flour to form a soft, non-sticky dough.

  1. Prepare plums:
    Mix sugar with cinnamon and place a little inside each pitted plum.

  1. Shape dumplings:
    Roll out dough and cut into squares.
  2. Place a plum in the center of each square.
  3. Wrap dough around the plum and seal well to form a ball.

  1. Cook dumplings:
    Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  2. Add dumplings and cook until they float (about 5–7 minutes).
  3. Remove and drain.

  1. Coating:
    Melt butter in a pan, add breadcrumbs and sugar, and toast until golden.
  2. Roll warm dumplings in the mixture.
