
✨ Description:
A classic Hungarian comfort meal made with sweet and tangy tomato cabbage (paradicsomos káposzta) served with crispy homemade meatballs (fasĂrt). Simple, filling, and full of traditional homemade flavor.
🥣 Ingredients:
For the Paradicsomos Káposzta:
- 1 medium head of white cabbage, shredded
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2–3 tablespoons oil
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1–2 fresh tomatoes (or canned)
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1–2 teaspoons sugar (to balance acidity)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Water as needed
- Optional: 1 bay leaf
For the FasĂrt (Meatballs):
- 500 g minced meat (pork or mixed)
- 1 egg
- 1 small onion, grated or finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2–3 tablespoons breadcrumbs
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Oil for frying
👨‍🍳 Instructions:
1. Paradicsomos Káposzta:
- Heat oil in a pot and sauté the onion until soft.
- Add paprika and stir quickly.
- Add shredded cabbage and mix well.
- Add tomato paste, chopped tomatoes, salt, pepper, sugar, and bay leaf.
- Pour in a little water and simmer for 30–40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft and slightly thick.
- Adjust seasoning to taste.
2. FasĂrt:
- Mix minced meat with egg, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Shape into small patties or balls.
- Fry in hot oil until golden brown and cooked through.
- Drain on paper towels.
