🇭🇺 Pörkölt (Hungarian Stew)

🧾 Ingredients:

  • 700 g beef, pork, or chicken (cubed)
  • 2 large onions (finely chopped)
  • 2 tbsp oil or lard
  • 2 tbsp Hungarian sweet paprika
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 green pepper (chopped)
  • 1 tomato (chopped)
  • 1 tsp salt (or to taste)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp caraway seeds (optional)
  • 150–250 ml water or broth (as needed)

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a pot and sauté onions until soft and golden.
  2. Remove from heat briefly and stir in paprika (to prevent burning).
  3. Add the meat and cook until it turns white and starts to brown slightly.
  4. Stir in garlic, tomato, and green pepper.
  5. Season with salt, pepper, and caraway seeds.
  6. Add a little water or broth, then cover and simmer on low heat for 1–1.5 hours (until meat is tender). Add more liquid if needed.
  7. Cook until the sauce is thick and rich.
