
Ingredients
- 500–700 g beef (chuck or stewing beef), cut into cubes
- 2 tbsp oil or lard
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp sweet Hungarian paprika
- 1 tsp caraway seeds
- 1–2 bell peppers, chopped
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 2 carrots, sliced
- 2 potatoes, diced
- 1–1.5 liters beef broth or water
- 1 tsp salt (to taste)
- ½ tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Heat oil in a large pot and sauté the onion until soft and golden.
- Remove from heat and stir in paprika (don’t burn it).
- Add beef, garlic, caraway seeds, bell pepper, and tomato. Mix well.
- Pour in broth or water and bring to a gentle boil.
- Cover and simmer for about 60–90 minutes until the beef is tender.
- Add carrots and potatoes.
- Continue cooking for 20–25 minutes until vegetables are soft.
- Adjust salt and pepper to taste.
Serve hot with fresh bread 🇭🇺🍲
