Hungarian Chicken Soup with Peas and Carrots (Csirkeleves) 🇭🇺

Ingredients

  • 500 g chicken (breast or legs)
  • 2 carrots (sliced)
  • 1 cup green peas
  • 1 small onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 potato (optional, diced)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and black pepper
  • 1–2 tablespoons oil
  • 1.5 liters water or chicken broth
  • Fresh parsley

Optional: small pasta or soup noodles.


Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pot and sauté the chopped onion and garlic.
  2. Add the chicken pieces and cook for 3–4 minutes.
  3. Stir in paprika, carrots, and potato.
  4. Pour in water or broth and bring to a boil.
  5. Simmer for 20 minutes.
  6. Add peas and pasta (if using) and cook another 10 minutes.
  7. Season with salt, pepper, and sprinkle parsley before serving.
