Lángos (Hungarian Fried Bread)

Ingredients

  • 500 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (7 g) dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 300 ml warm water or milk
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water/milk. Let sit for 10 minutes.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour and salt. Add yeast mixture and oil.
  3. Knead into a soft dough (about 8–10 minutes).
  4. Cover and let rise for 1 hour until doubled.
  5. Divide dough into small balls and flatten into discs.
  6. Heat oil in a deep pan.
  7. Fry each lángos until golden on both sides.
  8. Drain on paper towels.

Serving (traditional)

  • Sour cream + grated cheese
  • Garlic water (garlic mixed with oil or water)
  • Or simply salted 🇭🇺🍞
