
Pogácsa (Hungarian Cheese Biscuits)
Ingredients
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 250 g butter, softened
- 200 g sour cream
- 1 egg
- 1 packet (7 g) dry yeast
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 150 g grated cheese (plus extra for topping)
Instructions
- Dissolve the yeast and sugar in 2 tbsp warm water. Let stand for 5–10 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.
- Add butter, sour cream, egg, yeast mixture, and grated cheese.
- Knead until a smooth dough forms.
- Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
- Roll the dough to about 2 cm (¾ inch) thick.
- Score the top in a crisscross pattern with a knife.
- Cut out rounds using a biscuit cutter or glass.
- Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with extra grated cheese.
- Bake at 200°C (400°F) for 15–20 minutes, or until golden brown.
