Ingredients

  • 500 g all-purpose flour
  • 250 g butter, softened
  • 200 g sour cream
  • 1 egg
  • 1 packet (7 g) dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 150 g grated cheese (plus extra for topping)

Instructions

  1. Dissolve the yeast and sugar in 2 tbsp warm water. Let stand for 5–10 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.
  3. Add butter, sour cream, egg, yeast mixture, and grated cheese.
  4. Knead until a smooth dough forms.
  5. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
  6. Roll the dough to about 2 cm (¾ inch) thick.
  7. Score the top in a crisscross pattern with a knife.
  8. Cut out rounds using a biscuit cutter or glass.
  9. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  10. Brush tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with extra grated cheese.
  11. Bake at 200°C (400°F) for 15–20 minutes, or until golden brown.
