Túrós batyu

Ingredients

Dough

  • 500 g puff pastry or Danish pastry dough

Filling

  • 250 g túró (Hungarian cottage cheese/farmer’s cheese)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla sugar
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 2 tbsp semolina or breadcrumbs
  • Handful of raisins (optional)

For Brushing

  • 1 egg
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F).
  2. In a bowl, mix túró, egg yolk, sugar, vanilla sugar, lemon zest, semolina, and raisins.
  3. Roll out pastry and cut into squares.
  4. Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each square.
  5. Fold opposite corners toward the center and pinch lightly.
  6. Brush with beaten egg.
  7. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar.
