Ingredients
- 1 medium green cabbage (about 2 lbs / 900 g), grated
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil or butter
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 12 oz (340 g) egg noodles, wide noodles, or bow ties
- 1 tsp salt, or to taste
- ½ tsp freshly ground black pepper
- Optional: extra black pepper for serving
Instructions
- Remove the core from the cabbage and grate it coarsely.
- Heat the oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the sugar and cook for 1–2 minutes until it begins to caramelize lightly.
- Stir in the grated cabbage and cook for 20–30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage becomes soft and golden brown.
- Season with salt and black pepper.
- Meanwhile, cook the noodles according to the package directions. Drain well.
- Add the cooked noodles to the cabbage mixture and toss until evenly combined.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
- Serve hot with extra black pepper sprinkled on top.
