📝 Ingredients

  • 500 g beef (chuck or stewing beef, cubed)
  • 2 tbsp oil or lard
  • 2 large onions (chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 tbsp Hungarian sweet paprika
  • 1 tsp caraway seeds (optional)
  • 2 carrots (sliced)
  • 2 potatoes (cubed)
  • 1 bell pepper (chopped)
  • 1 tomato (chopped) or 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 liter beef broth or water
  • Salt and pepper to taste

1. Build the Base

  1. Heat oil or lard in a large pot.
  2. Add chopped onions and cook until soft and golden.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in paprika (to prevent burning).
  4. Add garlic and caraway seeds.

2. Cook the Meat

  1. Add beef cubes and mix well to coat.
  2. Return to heat and cook for a few minutes.
  3. Add a small amount of water and simmer until the meat begins to soften.

3. Add Vegetables

  1. Add carrots, potatoes, bell pepper, and tomato.
  2. Pour in broth or water.
  3. Season with salt and pepper.

4. Simmer

  • Cover and cook on low heat for 1.5 to 2 hours, until the beef is tender and flavors are rich.

5. Serve

  • Serve hot as a soup or stew with fresh bread.
